Cultural & Performing Arts

Conn PTA supports a variety of cultural and performing arts programs.

All special area teachers (art, dance, drama, music, physical education) receive a $200 stipend to use each year on classroom supplies, and are eligible to apply for a mini-grant once per year. Starting in grade 2, students have the opportunity to select a focus area each quarter where they can explore an area of interest in more depth. Grades K/1 visit each focus area on a 5-day rotation.

Conn PTA feels that the special areas is part of what makes our school unique, thus find these valuable programs in which to invest. Funding field day, drama production scripts and materials, sound equipment, and teacher stipends are just a few examples of our ongoing commitment to the arts.

In addition to students' daily specials, Conn PTA also provides multiple cultural arts experiences throughout the year. For example, learning the art of batiking is a 5th grade tradition at Conn. In house workshops from Raleigh Little Theater and visiting authors are also annual traditions for second and third graders. Overall, we have allocated $8,400 of the 2018-2019 budget (over 22% of total budgeted funds) to cultural & performing arts programs and support for special area teachers.
