Conn PTA is 100% volunteer run and our volunteers help the school be the best it can be for our students. Everything we do happens because someone like you donated their time and talent to support our CONNmUNITY!

how to become a volunteer

Any volunteer MUST first register with WCPSS and pass a criminal history and sexual offender registry check. Returning volunteers MUST renew their registration. You can renew an existing approval from July 1-October 31; after that, you have to start a new application. Find the 2026-2027 Wake County registration information here.

Volunteers must also attend a training session held by Conn administration (usually Mr. Warholik). Returning volunteers MUST attend the Conn training session each year.

Volunteer opportunities come in many shapes and sizes. Even if you have limited time to give, we have an opportunity for you to be an essential part of our CONNmUNITY. See below for different types of volunteer opportunities! Volunteering is open to parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, grown siblings, etc.

LUNCH ROOM Volunteers

We welcome approved volunteers to join us for one (or more) lunch shifts to help our staff support lunchroom needs. Typical support is assisting kids with food packages, helping to maintain lunchroom expectations, and cleaning between shifts. This year, additional support may be needed with Conn's participation in the SHARE program.

Volunteers will be welcomed to the lunchroom starting in October 2027. Sign-up to help!

Lunchroom schedule for the 2026-2027 school year is:

Kindergarten: 10:45 - 11:15
1st Grade: 11:25 - 11:55
2nd Grade: 12:45 - 1:15
3rd Grade: 12:10 - 12:40
4th Grade: 1:05 - 1:35
5th Grade: 12:30 - 1:00

cLASSROOM pARENTS

Each classroom (K thru 5th) will be supported by one (or more) room parent. The Room Parent may have additional volunteer opportunities from your classroom teacher. Please make sure you are included in the class roster so the room parent can include you on any additional communication.

The Room Parent may support the classroom by helping to:

Serve as a communication liaison to all parents
Coordinate in-classroom volunteer opportunities (i.e. hands-on activities, holiday celebrations)
Collect donations and supplies for events
Curate teacher gifts for birthdays, teacher appreciation week, holidays etc.
Update the classroom supply wish list

volunteer for pta events & programs

We can always use more help for our Conn PTA-sponsored events and programs. Events tend to be one-off opportunities that require a specific, shorter time commitment, while programs tend to be ongoing work to support the school. We'll list all of these opportunties as they come up and connect people with projects they are passionate about.

backpack buddies

Backpack Buddies is a supplemental food program supported by the Junior League of Raleigh. Each Wednesday a parent volunteer picks-up individual bags of food for students in our school experiencing food insecurity (typically about 25 bags per week) and returns the bags to the school office. The entire process takes about 30 minutes from pick-up at JLR to drop-off at Conn. Backpack Buddies is a wonderful way to support our greater Conn family. Thank you for volunteering this school year!
